Being Elves

As many of you may know, I’m a member of the National Association of Catering Executives. This allows me a chance to get to know the folks who run the banquet halls and hotel catering departments better. Recently, Trina, my Chicago Brides rep, convinced me to check out ISES, International Society of Event Specialists, another group of like NACE.

Earlier this evening I attended my first meeting. It was not your typical meeting. We met at the Union League Club of Chicago with the express purpose of making toys, that right, making toys! These toys will be given to disadvantaged households so they will have something under the tree come Christmas morning. It was an evening filled with lots of fun but a serious purpose. In the end, I wish I could see the faces of these children when they have something to open Christmas morning.

Last Chance

This weekend is your last chance to get your album completed if you want to have it in time for Christmas. I know that all album companies set a deadline by close of business today, but if the album is there by open of business Monday morning, they may still get it done.

Unfortunately, I cannot assure Christmas delivery on any album order placed after this weekend. While the album companies do try to complete as many orders as they can, there is no way of knowing how many extra orders they will be able to complete.

Romance and Contemporary Album Holiday Deadlines

I just heard from the first of the album companies. They are the ones who make the Romance and Contemporary albums for me. Between printing, shipping and all the rest of the process, I need to have those albums finalized by October 31 in order to assure that you will have your wedding album by Christams. While there is still a chance your album might make it by the wire, there are no guarantees! You might have to wait until after January 1 when production resumes after the holidays.

Holiday Deadlines Approaching

I know, I know, who can think about Christmas when it is 90 degrees out and the calendar says it is still summer. But if you want your wedding album to show your family at Christmas, then we’ve got until the end of October to complete your design. Once I receive word from the album companies, I’ll try to pass the word along to you.

I realize, I’m a little backed up but I’m working as fast as I can to catch up. If you’ve already received your preliminary draft, then just let me know what changes you desire and we can get your album moving.

Houston, We have a Problem!

Oh No! I’ve just discovered a technical glitch. It seems that posts I thought were being made, have disappearred. I’ve managed to restore many of the missing entries, but I still have some work to do.

I think I lost about 3 months worth. So far, I’ve managed to fix about 5 weeks of missing entries, which brings us to mid August. I will have to continue working on this later when I have time. Rest assured, I will catch up and you will not miss a single item of news.

NACE

I’ve joined NACE. What’s NACE you may ask…. it is the National Association of Catering Executives. Now what the heck is a photographer doing by joining a bunch of catering people. Learning and networking. This is an opportunity to meet the catering managers I interact with on wedding days. Unfortunately, at weddings, both the catering executives and I are too busy to really get a chance to talk and exchange ideas. Fortunately, there is NACE.

Each month’s meeting is at a different location. This month the meeting was held at Now We’re Cooking. Now We’re Cooking is a combination commercial, demonstration and instructional kitchen located in one facility. They can cater, you can rent the kitchen or host an event right there. We had an evening where we learned how to make some of the dishes found at a Tapas Bar. As you can see the best part was eating our class project!

June 2007: Catching Up

As some of you folks are aware, I fell way behind. No matter how hard I worked, I just could not seem to catch up. I finally decided to farm all of the kids out and devote a full work week to catching up. As my previous post mentioned I’ve finally had some time to breathe.

I realize that since I did not have a chance to blog while I was catching up (and honestly I didn’t think I should be blogging when there was tons of work to do), there are several recent events and photo sessions which I did not have a chance to feature. So here are some photos from recent events.

From Brad and Catherine’s Reception. Brad and Catherine had a destination wedding with a small local reception at Pheasant Run. It was a nice intimate affair with just close friends and family celebrating with them.

Next was Brad and Kristin’s wedding. We had a great day. It was absolutely beautiful. Kristin wanted some unique photos so we went to the Schaumburg sculpture garden. Here is a composite image I created just for them!

A great big welcome to Brady. The proud parents are Kevin and Kelly!

Another great wedding day. This time it was Amy and Randy. I don’t think I will ever forget the snack stop we made at all places, Home Depot!

But later on after Randy had his snack he did have time for a romantic moment.

Finally, we have Christie and Brian’s wedding from a week or so ago. I guess I’ve been lucky in that I’ve had great weather and great clients this year.
